Unleash the House
Our finding the House was fate. After realizing that 4 of us needed a place to live at the same time, Mel Sky and I had searched north and south for the perfect pad. Exhausted, we found a few places that were tempting, but didn’t completely fit. A few days later, she and Fishlure set out again. They were excited to check out the new places, but decided they wouldn’t get too excited about the first one if it was good. However, the House, built in the early 1900's, had its own agenda, and once the girls stepped through the front door, it had already pulled them in.
Sixteen months later, the living room would be one of the most delightful dance floors in the city.
I guess I never really thought about the differences between a House party and a Club party. Tho, I did notice the few times where I had entered a club and felt like I was walking into someone’s home. Something about the vibration of the air, the softness of people’s smiles. The idea that even if they didn’t know you at that moment, by the end of the night they would. It’s few and far between that club nights are found like that in Seattle. And yet, I know that it’s an energy that promoters throughout the city are trying to achieve. We leap between liquor laws and strict permits, noise ordinances and neighbor’s complaints. They make it just so damn hard to have a party.
But the force of the Leschi House is hard to resist. It knows nothing of laws. It thrives on people’s conversations and countenance, joining citizens of different cultures to share thoughts on politics, love and art. And the arms of the home at Leschi are reaching further than this beautiful city, drawing artists from the city’s sister on the Bay, San Francisco.
I blame Robb Green.
He moved to the Bay area last year. But before he left, behind the decks on the dance floor of the Leschi Lounge, he named genre that is composed from the core Seattle's character. We call it, Punk Rock Disco. A fusion of rock and dance. What better blend to bring together a city that grew up on Grunge? It has woken up, stretched it’s arms, smoked a bowl, and knocked on our neighbor’s door. And the neighbor has come over to our house to play.
Early Saturday afternoon, I received a text message that I could hardly believe. DJ Garth, a San Franciso House music legend, was staying in town after his previous gig at Trinity Nightclub, and wanted to come to our 13 month-old afterparty to play. I texted back Ramiro, promter and DJ for Uniting Souls, ‘hell yes!’.
It is no coincidence that this happened on exactly the 6-year anniversary weekend of one of the most monumental organizations for House music in Seattle. Uniting Souls has been doing just that for six long years. They have consistently created the energy of a house party and implanted it into clubs throughout the city. Despite all the difficulties of business and bars, they have always been able to bring the love of the music called House into a room and made it thrive. And at 5 o’clock in the morning on Sunday, they were uniting souls in the House in Leschi. And DJ Garth was the glue.
I got pretty bitched out from our neighbor that morning. He and his (pregnant) wife were sleeping soundly on a Saturday night until they were awoken at 2am to the sounds of people walking to and fro a line of cars filling up our street and the next. We’ve reinforced the sound proofing of our windows. You can’t hear the thump of the bass from the street. And we try our best to keep people from talking on their way up the road, but we can only do so much. Those particular neighbors hadn’t complained until they recently cut the hedges in their front yard. I suspect they were wanting to improve their amazing view of Lake Washington & Mount Raineer, but (I) got an earful instead. He spoke with me early the next morning and encouraged us to ‘become part of the community’ if we want to stay in the area and ‘go back to Capital Hill’ if we want to party. I understood his position and listened intently. But all I could think about was, ‘DJ Garth is in my living room’.
And our fair neighbor has no understanding of the implications of this. He has no knowledge of the House music community or the force that the uniting of such an artistic community creates. They want social change and yet they vote time and again on things that keep those that consummate the change apart. I suppose that’s why it’s called an ‘Underground’ community. Maybe he should learn about us and what we stand for and why we open up our home and spend our evenings and weekends creating a space for people who care about our country and our future and the human race as a global community that encompasses every human being on Earth. Maybe we, through voice and art and music, should encourage him and all of our neighbors to ‘become part of the community’ if they want peace and ‘go back to the suburbs’ if they want quiet. Let’s dig ourselves up from the ‘Underground’ and allow each and every person who enters our domain, wherever that may be, feel welcome to join in on what we love – each other.
The House at Leschi has been around longer than any of our neighbors or their homes. It has breathed the air of the Lake where Garth and our guests swam in the early warmth of the sun that morning, waited for Mount Raineer to peak now-and-again above the clouds, and watched families move their lives in and out of our neighborhood for over 100 years. The House brought us here to build our community. And the House, like its inhabitants, has a very strong will.
Long live the House party, my friends. And long live the House.

Hooks, Head, Homos and House - 4 events in 24 hours
I was feeling pretty mellow on Friday after a long, productive work-week and an intense workout at the gym. I chilled in the papasan with a glass of wine and some left-overs and popped in one of my favorite flicks to get me in the mood. Justin Kerrigan’s Human Traffic is one of the best views of club culture that I’ve found so far. Each time I watch it I notice another brilliant scene or idea conveyed. The witty British humor and Pete Tong’s essential music selection was enough to convince me that that night was not an evening to stay at home.
At 10:30, Momo picked me up to head to Capital Hill. After Rockstar parking and a quick slice at Mama’s, we were off to the newest, hottest, messiest gay night in Seattle, Hot Mess, a monthly brought to you by L.A. Kendall (Hitgirl!, KMA), Julie Herrera (Woord, KMA), and Colby B (Comeback, Woord, KMA, Club Pop) EVERY 3rd Friday at the War Room. Even though the War Room spouts the motto ‘Peace is our Profession’, the kind of piece you’ll really be gettin’ on that night is not something our fair leaders would vote for on their Capital Hill! At 11:30, the crowd was only moderate, but the line was out the door with ‘lesbo lovers, silly queens, hipster fags and all their hags’. By 11:55 both bars, the upstairs patio and the dance floor were completely packed with piece-loving patrons, and the only seat you could find was probably connected to a hottie - and already filled for the evening. Besides, L.A. Kendall’s live vocals and guest DJ Special-T wouldn’t allow you to sit, unless you’d been smart enough to get there before the drag queens took their usual stage-side thrones.
When we arrived at the door, we were greeted by a remarkably tall, slender man in white bunny ears and skimpy red soccer shorts.
‘Hi! I’m Sven!’ He said in a thick Swedish accent. ‘Would you like to have a taste of my spicy sausage?’ We peered at the plate full of small brown crusty balls rolling around limply.
‘I made of zem myzelf, fresh from za house.’ He yelled. ‘Zome people like my spicy balls very much’.
‘No thanks’, we said in unison. He smiled and ran off to offer his gift to another lucky receiver. Slightly grossed out, we headed over to the dance floor to maneuver our minds towards another direction. But the big screen overlooking the disco demonstrated another spicy offer, this time of circa 1970’s gay-male porn. While the level of spice in those days was definitely less potent than you might find at Castle Superstore today, our minds were still in the midst of a sausage-fest. So we threw our hands up, and our heels, and pulled up a rug to enjoy the view.
We were soon joined by some friends who were accompanying a woman whose accent Momo described as ‘really fucking hot’. The accent was British (and indeed ‘hot’). She had been flown into town from London for a local festival where her short film was featured. We soon found out that she was not only a film-maker, but also part owner of two club destinations for Be and I to visit when we head on our trip to Europe next month - The Candy Bar -- in both London & Brixton. Touted as ‘London’s flagship lesbian bar’, this sweet venue offers a 3 floors of DJ’s, female strippers and (you guessed it) Karaoke on Wednesday nights.
Feeling that we’d gotten more than we’d bargained for at Hot Mess, Momo and I decided to bounce to our next destination -- downtown to Trinity Nightclub. Going from the center of Capital Hill’s homo-erotic essence to the hetero meet-market of Pioneer Square was --- not really much different. Parking is still impossible, boys still grab all the ass they want and you can still pick up a wiener from a street vendor, even after the bars close down. But lady luck was on our team, as we rolled right into yet another Rockstar parking spot half a block from the club. Despite my new-found 1st Thursday’s residency at Trinity and Momo’s knack for charming the pants off every door-person in town, we paid the $15 cover to get into the club. Truth-be-told, donating $15 to see the acclaimed, San Francisco-based duo Gabriel and Dresden is still the cheapest price you will pay pretty much anywhere in the United States. We supported the door price happily, knowing that the more cash the promoters collect, the more world-class artists will be willing to visit our city, and Seattle will no longer be a 2nd class electronic citizen.
We sauntered into the Main room of the 2-story club, past the long bar to the packed dance floor where Gabriel and Dresden were building beats live from the DJ pulpit well above the crowd. The church-like room (its features are actually from a local church) hosted a crowd of a few hundred, jumping and dancing to the sexy house synths and techno beats. I cruised through the other 3 rooms of the club searching for the smile of familiar faces and paused in the loft area above the Main room to get a feel of the dance floor from above. While the side rooms of Trinity have yet to encompass the intimate vibe that a House venue inevitably brings, the intensity of the dance floor as it pulls the energy toward one centralized sphere more than makes up for it in the interim. Experiencing the size and energy of the crowd as animated as it was for this San Francisco duo proved that Dragon Entertainment & Trinity had promoted proudly to pack the night for G&D. And, knowing that DJ Chronus had opened the Main Room with his deep Progressive groove was proof that the congregation had been heating up the floor boards for some time.
A familiar face made its way to me around the same time as my first Budweiser.
‘Hey, I have your hat’, he said. It was Tyler, a boy I met at Element a few weeks earlier. He had reminded me in an abstract way that dancing was just as much a part of being a DJ and mixing records. So as an infinite reminder, I had gifted him the first hat I had ever worn to a gig. Soon after, the rest of the crew was located, front and center. Kisses and hugs all around, and the circle for the evening was complete.
A whole night had passed, but the weekend was only half over. I’d intentionally signed up for Saturday to work as a volunteer for the IOSIS Art Party held at Capital Hill Arts Center (CHAC). I knew that Friday night’s events would diminish my motivation to go out the next night. Thus, the commitment of a volunteer position was just what I needed to pull on my Rockstar Hat and set forth for the evening. And I’m glad I did. I would have missed another incredible night of art and music.
The IOSIS Art parties are held by an organization called Infinite Connections, whose goal is to ‘connect people to new experiences through art and music’. With beautiful décor and performance art, the IOSIS parties are nothing less than magical. I arrived at the merchant booth promptly 12 minutes after 10 to report for duty. I was given a quick run-down of my duties -- sell water & CD’s and answer random questions. Volunteering is definitely a great way to support. The 2-hour shift seemed too easy and absolutely worth my free ticket into the show.
An hour into my employment, a very tall gentleman wearing long black pants, a fancy button up t-shirt, a black faux fur vest and a fiery-red streak of red hair color sashayed behind the merchant table and sat next to me. ‘I’m here for my shift!’ he said. It was Kevin Heaven aka Sven from Sveden. Tho this time, Sven was packed safely at home in his drawers and there were no spicy sausage balls in sight! How ‘random’ that I would run into Mr. Heaven twice in one weekend, only 1 week after I’d initially met him at an after-hours party we’d held at my home. All business this night, he was here to help and the bottle of wine that he’d brought left-over from his job at a restaurant was here to help as well. ‘Fabulous’, I said. Indeed it was.
Thom had shown up to relieve me of my shift, but only after I helped him eat the pineapple fried rice that he’d ordered from Jai Thai up the street. Wined and dined, I set out after my work was done to enjoy the rest of the party. The main room in CHAC was filled with ravers and artists 18 and up, while the 21 and over crowd enjoyed the scene from the roped-off area made into the bar. There were too many brilliant musicians playing at 'Primal Matter' that night to name, but I do remember the trio that was playing in the chill room at the end of the night, the Mentats. Their synths and keyboards were tucked pleasantly beside tree branches and a small entourage of listeners were spread delicately around the rest of the room. I felt like I’d happened upon a gathering of electronic faeries at an intimate, mid-morning concert in the forest. Of course, if that room was a forest, the downstairs room was definitely a cave at the center of an immense mountain. The dark room was a perfect place for a sneak peak at Infinite Connection’s monthly ‘Breaks and Freaks’, a night where dark polyrhythmic beats mingle with the peculiar comedy of circus freaks. Pure Cirkus, a local assembly of off-the-wall artists with such acts as street performances, theatre, acrobatics and opera mesh with tribal industrial music, fire manipulation and in the case of last Saturday’s party - body modification!! Indeed, the food and wine in my tummy turned just a little when I walked into the Main Room to see the unusual act of body suspension, the art of hanging the human body from hooks. In addition, the performers' bodies were airbrushed as they were suspended. It was both beautiful and grotesque at the same time. And while I’ll stick with a digital pen to express myself, I give props to those who are bringing ancient art forms to our ‘civilized’ society in such propelling ways.
Feeling that once again an event had wow’d me to the weekend's fullest extent, I headed to my final destination, a good old-fashioned House night presented by Uniting Souls, Amfibius and Innerflight. This party was my first experience at absolutely the quaintest venue for House music in this city. You’ll pass by LoFi heading north from R.E.I. on Eastlake, but unless you are trying out your new Novara you probably won’t notice the front door at all. Once in, however, the front downtempo room holds a small bar and an intimate corner for a DJ booth. It includes a long couch along the opposite wall so you can still appreciate a cuddle puddle. Kadeejah Streets and J-Sun of Innerflight where warming up the decks underneath the red lights. It was so congenial and cozy that I half expected to see a fireplace blazing away. I followed the lengthy hallway towards the back of the bar to the main room where James Curd of Greenskeepers (Chicago) was mixing beats in the corner. There was a mirror on both walls where the DJ stood, so you could check out your own dance moves from all directions. Another bar existed at the end of the room. However, instead of the usual bar mirror, it revealed a large window and a full-size view of the Space Needle, its space-aged eyes twinkling high above the city. To top it off, a loft overlooks the dance floor from the back, hosting a nice couch and love seat where a couple was necking happily to House grooves.
I ended the evening with a spliff and a quick goodbye. After 4 incredible events in 24-hours, all I wanted to do was crawl into bed dreaming of hooks, head, homos, and House music.

Build a David Best Temple for our lost friends and neighbors.
..... TEMPLE FUNDRAISER: SATURDAY 4/1/06 DOWNTOWN ......
We are going to have a fundraiser downtown this Saturday. The goal is to raise at least $5000 to fund the construction of the temple. The fundraiser will consist of what we do best: art, music, great people and inviting spaces where we can be together. The fundraiser will not have an admission price. No booze will be sold (byo, yo!) to raise money. All money raised will have been gifted.
This is not something that we are doing for ourselves, it's a service
that we are giving to our community. This event will get a lot of
attention and will be attended by a lots of different kinds of
people, not just burners. For a lot of people, this will be their
first exposure to what burners can do.
Here's what we need:
.. YOU. Art of all sorts. Two more ass-kicking sound systems (including CDJs, turntables, mains, subs, monitors). Performers of all sorts (DJs, musicians, performance artists, dancers, if you perform, we wantcha!). Counselors, body-workers, people who can listen. People with party infrastructure: Lights, chill room supplies etc
Here's what we have so far:
A $200 check from David Best for "nail money". About $300 in other cash donations. David said that we could get "temple materials" from him. If I heard right, The Machine people are offering materials and supplies. We have us, and that means that we've got more resources and energy and brilliance at our fingertips than damn near anyone else I can think of. Final info on the fundraiser on Saturday. Don't forget the FOOD and be sure to remember to BRING BOOOZE because sure as shit we need it.

Abolish Fences
Every month I hear people say when they leave ‘You have great friends’. And they tell their friends. And then they tell their friends.
We have a few mottos about the party. It has to be Sexy. It has to be Diverse. Excellent music. Quality people. Style. Art. We want a place where everyone will be and feel comfortable. A place where everyone will fit in. We averaged 15-20 people at the party for the first 6 months. Our home can hold at least 200 comfortably, and we knew we had a good thing to share. So to us it seemed rather empty. We started making flyers and hand-picking people to come by. Told friends to tell their extended friends. Wrote about it online. We created hype. Slowly, very slowly, our numbers started increasing.
Every month I hear people say when they leave ‘Everyone here is so warm and nice’. And they tell their friends. And then they tell their friends.
About 3 months ago, it caught on. Big time. Last weekend, there were over 100 people in my home. Over 50 that I didn’t know. We’ve had camera’s stolen. Jackets borrowed. Jewelry lost. Each month we scramble to clean, put up the walkways, light the candles. Each month we shush people who wake our forgiving neighbors at 5am, walking to and fro.
Every month I hear people say when they leave ‘I had the best time’. And they tell their friends. And then they tell their friends.
It’s now known in the lesbian community as ‘The Afterparty’. We hear acclimation about it upon meeting new people. We’ve been asked by the unknowing if we are attending. And its hype has expanded outside of the comfort of the community to two other overlapping offshoots-- the Burning Man Community and the Underground Music Community.
Every month I hear people say when they leave ‘I met so many great people’. And they tell their friends. And then they tell their friends.
Beauty has grown to be one of The Afterparty’s most powerful traits. It’s not only that the house itself is beautiful, but the people are beautiful. The vibe is beautiful. The diversity is beautiful. And the music is beautiful.
Music is a key and electronic is a gateway. It’s abstract, so it speaks exclusively to everyone. And the Rhythm allows the Syncopation of the Souls. It’s the river that binds us together -- that connects conversations to realizations. People barely even dance. But they listen. They learn. They are open to others. They feel.
It’s scary to bring people into your home. It’s scary to leave your front porch without knowing if you will return. It’s scary to trust your neighbor. People who have done so have lost their lives. But it’s imperative. A fence does more damage to a community than a shotgun. Keeping people out may keep you safe, but it will cut you off from society. And you may die inside.
Fear is the opposite of Love, and a Party is the opposite of War -- a protest against fear and hate. I’ve lived lifetimes amidst battles, and I’m tired of fighting. Let’s choose to be brave and play.

ain't nothin' like wine 'n jazz
Was it luck or fate that found the four of us with a dire need to leave our respective homes almost exactly a year ago? Since then, each person who has walked through our doors has left an outline of themselves. Some stay longer to fill their's in. To make music. Share ideas. Or simply rock on the porch's wooden chair, to bask in the beauty of Mt. Raineer.
The Leschi Lounge lives somewhere between wealth and bohemia. Part frat house, part commune, part Bed and Breakfast, part club. It is an art space. A three-dimentional canvas of six beatnik artists, each's own niche intensified by our personalities -- joined by the beat of our bleeding hearts. Its proof of the amplification of art -- Creativity, when conjoined with creativity, grows exponentially.
We are hippies of a new age. We learned from the sixties. But so did they. The tools our forefathers left for us have been dismantled. But we still fight. We protest privily. We find new paths to each other. Through music. Through hope. There are many ways to be a soldier. We choose to dance.

Who needs tv when you can Dream
I started working when I was 15. I woke up early to take Honors classes, then went to school, then participated in sports, then worked a pizza job, then worked a grocery job on weekends. I even had time for Homework and 90210. I didn't go to parties or drink. Not that I didn't want to. I just didn't know where to go. I mean, it wasn't this schedule the entire time in High School. There were breaks here and there. Once Masil & I even snuck out of the house. But for the most part, that was my life. I got 5 hours of sleep a night.
When I got to college, I learned to work hard and play hard. That was even my personal motto for a while. I learned balance. I learned to get things done and still have time to join in on the fun. I did well in my classes -- not excellent -- but well. I worked my part-time job at McD's, I was a writer and photographer for the school paper, I played Intermural sports. I even helped start a female and co-ed Intermural league (so gay). And I drank along with the rest of the 7th-floor girls. They drank every Friday and Saturday. I couldn't do that. It was too much for me. So I worked Fridays until midnight and then drove them all home from the parties. Saturday was my day to play.
When I got out of school, I started working. I learned an entirely new skillset for my career as a computer geek. So after work, I took classes. Perl, Web Databases, Dreamweaver. Once I took a 9 month course in Fundamentals of Security. I'm what you call an Overachiever.
Then I discovered House music. And I became a DJ.
But being a newbie DJ just don't pay enough to sustain. It's an art. And art, in this society, is not what makes the world go round. Most artists must work in order to fund their passion, in hopes that some day the means will shift. I was gifted the unique opportunity to work as a DJ for 6 months. I knew that I was blessed with some 'time off' in my day job and I feel that I used it wisely. I used it to work exclusively as a DJ ... build relationships locally and out of town, increase my fanbase, explore new genres and new equipment, re-design my web site*, throw some kick-ass parties**. And sleep. I needed to sleep. 5 hours may be fine when you are 15. But at 30... I want double. In society today, we do not allow ourselves enough sleep. We work too many hours. We keep ourselves busy with too much 'stuff'. We watch tv to calm ourselves down in order to sleep. Truth be told, when you do sleep as much as your body asks you to, you dream. Such fabulous dreams. I travelled planets, played in bands, had children. I met Tegan & Sarah, seduced Kate Winslet. I could fly.
I guess last night, when I was thinking about how I have 1 week left off from working a day job, I thought about what I wanted to do. I had already said goodnight to my girlfriend. I could read, watch tv, spin records. I could talk to my roomies or surf the net. But what I really wanted to do was sleep. To dream. Your mind is a place where you can create a reality in 7 minutes. In the world, it takes a little longer. It's taken me 15 years to create this reality. Who knows, it could another 15 years to create the next. Isn't that what we are really working for anyway? To create a reality where everyone in this world can live their dreams?
Work for change.
----
*I had to part in this, VuDu did it for me. You'll see it soon.
*BTW -- Nothing that I do is on my own. I have a LOT of great people working just as hard as I do.. and they didn't get 6 months to sleep. Sokolicky, Momo Swells, Pink, Da Man, Hei, Fishlure, VuDu, Samantha, Elletee, Masil, Jessica Star, DiRty, Liz ... the list goes on ... That's why I feature everyone on my blog. To say thanks. And give credit when I can.

With performances by:
Aerialists, contortionist, illusionists, fire
Pure Cirkus started out as a Seattle based piercing/suspension group called P.U.R.E. (people undergoing real experiences). Over the course of 3 years the group grew larger and larger as it began to perform shows both public and private, pulling together many talented performers who strived to push the limits of the human mind and body in an ancient art form that dates back to the oldest mummy found to date until it finally evolved into what is now PURE CIRKUS. As P.U.R.E entered into its 3rd year performing all over Seattle it spawned its own fire troupe, run by Xavier Frost and Jennifer Morgensen. Soon enough it began to take on all forms of entertainers such as jugglers, clowns and other creeds of artists that simply wanted to place that they could entertain and grow as a performer. So began Pure Cirkus. The group that began as a private get together of friends to create an inspiring personal experience born out of our primordial society has transformed into Pure Cirkus. A blend of clowns, fire, suspension/piercing, dancers, acrobats, musicians and artists from all over that have come together to build what we hope will be a long lasting cirkus that will come to entertain people for generations.
In the Theatre:
Breaks to Tribal Progressive through Hard Techno and Psytrance
Osiris Indriya (Iboga Records, Oracle Gatherings, IOSIS Art Party) is a legend of the West Coast Underground Dance scene. He has been featured with underground artists such as Brian, Brad, and Trevor of L.A. Moontribe, Manoj of Uplift in Portland, OR, trance goddess Phoenix Olivia in Vancouver B.C., and Lorin (bassnectar) from Santa Cruz/SF, CA. Osiris has also been featured along side recording artists Human Blue (Spiral Trax, chill code - Sweden), Ganga Giri (Australia) and SunControlSpecies (Zenon, Iboga - Australia), as well as Antix, Beat Bizarre, and DJ Banel from Danish Progressive label Iboga Records where he is now an official label DJ. He is a weekly resident at Contour Night Club in Seattle for IMPULSE Thursdays. All this while playing at forest, desert, beach, and indoor gatherings, club nights, and festivals up and down the west coast, as well as internationally including the Double 6 in Kuta, Bali and Shambhala Music Fesival in Nelson, Canada. Driven to take Seattle to the next level, Osiris has been deep into creating several projects. He has teamed up with Infinite Connections to bring the best of Europe’s tribal progressive trance music and world class art to the Pacific Northwest in a series of events called IOSIS Art Parties. As co-founder of the Oracle Gatherings, he is bringing a new paradigm in a growing dance community by integrating with the Northwest’s mythical undercurrent. All this has helped inspire the release of his all original progressive and downtempo CD, "Reach Within". http://www.osirisindriya.com/
Tribal House and Breaks
Michael Manahan (Oracle Gatherings) has been involved in the underground visionary arts culture in Seattle for over 12 years as a DJ and event and music producer. Hailing from the burgeoning San Francisco house scene of the early 90s, Michael co-produced the original northwest full-moon celebrations lasting 5 years. Holding several residencies and as co-founder of the Oracle Gatherings, Michael has led many up and down the west coast through their dance journeys, from San Francisco to Vancouver, B.C. through Ashland and Portland and even Hawaii. His style remains deep, tribal house dipped in funk, peppered with bhangra, accompanied by beats that hit you like a rippling earthquake. With an eclectic composition, he crosses boundaries by weaving together a confluence of musical styles, but almost always with funky tribal and dubby influences at the roots. http://www.michaelmanahan.com
Progressively psychedelic to the core
Amanita (IOSIS Art Party) has been a DJ in Seattle for over 5 years focusing on the uplifting and driving sounds of psychedelic trance. Having played up and down the West coast with a who’s who list of international psychedelic producers and DJs such as Talamasca, Oforia, Shakta, Penta, Atomic Pulse, Wizzy Noise and Ticon, Amanita has shifted his focus to the more progressive side of psychedelic dance music.
Stylish tracks served with smooth-as-silk mixing and a celestial bassline
Jen Woolfe (Session) A native of Seattle, Jen Woolfe's seductive styles of House, Downtempo and Electronic Dance seamlessly blend daring vocals & erotic sounds over delicious beats. This enchantress draws you into her realm with hypnotic grooves, teases you with a hint of Tech, and melts you into the dance floor. http://www.jenwoolfe.com
In the Marquee Lounge:
Hippity Hoppity Funky Breaks and Drum’n’Bass
Shapeshifter (Static Factory Media/Buddhaful) as flagship turntable artist for Static Factory Media, Shapey continues to bring the art of turntablism to the world of electronic music. Known for hip-hop and nu skool breaks, down tempo and D&B, Shapey's distinct style of DJing is a must see. Striving to utilize the turntable as an instrument, Shapeshifter is also a strong member of the ten-piece funk/improv band, Marmalade (http://www.buddhaful.com), with a residency at Tost Lounge in Fremont for three years. With years of turntable artistry and event production under his slipmat, Shapey has helped create the magic of Fremont's Mardi Gras Masqurade Ball 2005, Critical Mass-Seattle's Burningman Recompression 2004, Phoenix Fest 2005, and produces the 6-year running Gathering of the Ram. Shapeshifter has played with many of Seattle's premier talent such as KJ Sawka, Freeschool featuring Reggie Watts, Darek Mazzone, FourthCity, and rocked such venues as The House of Blues and Club Ice in Las Vegas, Le Bunker (Rio de Janeiro), Le Floride's 30th Anniversary Party (Nantes, France) and IOT Disco Teche in Tarragonna, Spain.
A surprise waiting to happen
Phidelity aka Kris Northern is a veteran psy-chill DJ/producer from San Francisco. Hailing back from the early 90's rave scene, Kris developed the taste for psychedelic soundscapes and beats primarily of the storytelling flavor and has since forged his own unique style of mixing incorporating a wide palette of musical styles and tying his sets together with theme based storytelling elements.
Mixing techno and IDM just the way you like it
Greg Skidmore (Oscillate/thePGSeries) Along with Paul Edwards and Patrick Haenelt, Greg Skidmore brings in world-class producers and DJs through the auspices of their PG Series and Oscillate weeklies, respectively. Behind the Technics, Greg has earned a reputation as Seattle's foremost authority on esoteric electro and as a connoisseur of quality IDM. In fact, heads have started calling these styles “Skidmore music” due to his absolute mastery of them. All this and the dude just started shaving last year. (Dave Segal)
Smooth Downtempo
Cory Michael (einsoff) has had a fascination with rhythm since the tender age of 6 when he began drum lessons. He was so into the "drum set" that he swore off any beats not made "the real way". Those words tasted soooo good as he danced to house for the first time some years later. Another large influence at a young age was hip hop beats; maybe that is the root of his fascination with broken beats. His love of dancing brought him to DJing and he started dabbling after being inspired by the best of the Seattle underground scene. He started playing house of all sorts (whatever records he could borrow), then worked his way into breaks and down tempo. He still listens to all varieties of music, but anything with a broken beat holds a special place in his heart.
And spiritual reading with one of the most gifted clairvoyant/psychic/medium Seattle has... Spookee
I am a psychic medium: that means I see the future and spirits. I also read cards and give insightful, intuitive advice. In a reading with me you will learn that no one ever really dies, that everything is interconnected and that in your darkest hour, in a room with no other living being, you are never alone! http://www.spookee.org

NEW MIX! san francisco soul
This set is inspired by my friends at Deep House Originals. The first Saturday of each month at Baltic and every Friday at Temple Billiards, they bring the old skool House vibe of Chicago legends to our coastal town. Craig Alexander, Mark Grant, Theo Parish, Glen Underground and Rick Wilhite.. and in the near future, among others, Minx! I started thinking about who my influences are of House music and how West Coast I really am. While I devour anything that DJ Heather (Chicago), Robsoul Recordings (France) or Ty Tek (Denver) even hum, my Heart is in Seattle. But my Soul, my friends, is definately in San Francisco.

On the Edge of Unmotivation
I text some friends to see who is out on the town. Good little kids doing good little things. There's enough interest that I wouldn't have to go alone. Damn.
I refer to the gift that Jessica Star gave me today, a deck to lead my way. I pull a card. It says 'The Hermit'. She says, 'Don't take it too seriously'. I saw a license plate yesterday that said 'Hybern8te'. Do I read too much into things?
'Keep your bra on,' says Masil, 'Once the bra is off, it's all over.' Too true.
But the state of my underwear is beyond my control. Once you commit to a relationship, some sacrifices are made. 'I'm thinking of going to an afterparty tonight, honey, is that okay?' 'Of course, lover.' says Pink. She's so fucking supportive.
Sokolicky pops her head into the room. 'Are you going to that afterparty?' Grrrr. I'm ambushed by my own ambition. Too bad after parties don't start at 2pm. Of course, some of the good ones do.
We pop in re-runs of 'In Living Color', delivered to my door by Netflix. Don't even have to go to the video store. I love it. We are half asleep when Momo & Andrew wake us. 'Going to the afterparty? We brought Coors lite.'
'I give it two smokes up in a circle', I say. An hour later, we're all asleep. I'm sure the afterparty was a fabulous time, but I enjoyed an organic pleasure -- sleeping soundly.
