The Key to Shaping a Young Girl's Life

(Nov 22, 2005)

On Friday I saw that there were $35 tickets still available for the Gwen Stafani concert last night at the Key. So naturally, I bought the $80 ones. I figured, if I was gonna do a show like that, I'd do it up right. We had great seats, though, in the 115 section which was to the left of the stage. There was a little girl beside us who was there with her dad. She had to be only 9 or 10, almost the same age that I was when my mom took me to one of my first concerts, Madonna's True Blue. WOW! My mom said between that show and the George Michael's Faith concert a few months later, she's never heard little girls scream more in her life. What does seeing Madonna live on stage, or even idolizing Madonna, at the age of 11 do to young girls? Well, basically, it gave us the courage to be ourselves, without boundries. To challenge the rules that society has placed upon us and express ourselves in any way we want, be it in a career, through a creative outlet, or using our voices. The father who took his daughter to Gwen Stafani said to her, "That could be you up there someday". The truth is, thanks to the gift that he's given her, it already is.

New (and old) Blog Links

I used to have Masil Q. and Bionic Chic's blog links up, but at some point they dissapeared. And I'm so lazy that it took me this long to put them back up! But I was inspired also by my friends Nami and Brian who are over in Japan teaching English to Japanese students. Nami was my first roomate in college, if you can believe that. She was a cheerleader from Tacoma and I was a band geek from Steilacoom. There was no cable in the dorms that first year, so we'd stay up late and watch recordings of my favorite MTV videos for hours and giggle. We had very little in common, but we remained great friends. Now, she is SO not a cheerleader (except deep down) and I'm SO not a band geek (except deep down). Her and Brian are an amazing couple, and I'm excited to have the opportunity to read about their travels by blog. I also added one of the first blogs I ever read, Little. Yellow. Different., as well as two of the most meaningful to me, Moby and Margret Cho. Enjoi!

PS -- If Bionic Chic doesn't come see me while she's in Seattle this week I will be beating her ass with a rubber turkey.

Not sure how this Dragon made his way through the kitchen which was packed with people.

New friends mean new family.
12:30 the Cops showed up and we all got ready for some spankings.

Some found refuge in the glowroom. Bring out your dead!
Eddie tears it up on the dance floor upstairs! Ladies love him, Grrls adore him.

Why are you a drunk?

I've been in Hermitville, which is movie heaven. Yesterday Pink and I watched the first two Harry Potter movies to get ready for my family's annual Harry Potter Thanksgiving, where we eat loads of fattning foods and then go see the new Harry Potter movie at the local theatre. Each year I read the book before the movie, so this week I started the 4th book. My brother James has, of course, read all of them and can probably by now recite them from memory in Latin. Last year I was really attracted to Hermonie, which totally tripped me out because she's only supposed to be 13 in the movie but must be like 16 in real life, which is only two years older than my brother (unless you read his myspace add). I know it's wrong on so many levels. First, of course she's underage. Secondly, because I've been watching her since she was like 10. Ew. And most importantly because it massively violates the 10-year rule which we all know is vital to living a healthy lifestyle. But let's face it, nobody in America knew how to pronounce Hermoine before Emma and JK Rowling made it famous. When she turns 18, she may move to my top 10 list for females, which is contrived mostly of British actors and is, of course, topped by Kate Winslet. I know you feel me.

'Why am I a drunk? Is that what you really wanted to ask me? Then this is our first date or our last, up till now I wasn't sure it was either'*. Today is my Monday. You see, Pink works retail which means she works weekends. So Thursday is Monday, Friday is her Tuesday, you get the idea. I missed her too much when I worked Business Hours, plus they made me wear bras. So, I decided to work weekends i.e. be a DJ. That's really the only reason. Really.

( Thur Nov 10 )
Rockrgrl Conference starts today and extends all weekend. Keynote speakers include Patty Smith, Johnette Napolitano, Bonny Raitt, Ann Wilson and Allison Anders.

( Sat Nov 12 )
GO TO Portland and see Chicks on Speed @ Holocene

( Sun Nov 13 )
Shameless CO-OP @ Chapel because I had a great time spinning there last week and it's a kick-ass weekly.

PS - I DO have Halloween pictures, but they need a little work before I can put them up. Stay tuned!!

* Quote from a movie. The first to guess the movie gets a free CD. I know, all the CD's are free. But work with me, here.
