Drunk in Dance Fest

LSC on Saturday was a drunkin’ dance fest! The night was starting out super slow, dead even, and at 12:15 or so, Kendall and I thought the nasty weather was scaring people off. Then all of a sudden, either I was drunk or TONS of people magically appeared! It was a great night after that. Kendall and Julie Herrera rocked the house. I enjoyed my 2nd set, though for some reason my hand kept hitting the on-off switch on the turntable which causes the record’s beats per minute to slowly decrease. So the song ends up sounding like this ‘git yo freak on, git yo freak on, gotta gottta gottttaa ggiiit yoooouuurrr freaaaaaaaakkkkkkkkkkkkk ooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnn’ until it stops. So about 3 times in my headphones and TWICE live the song did that. It’s all very obvious and VERY embarrassing, but the crowd just smiled and kept dancin’. Even during the last time it happened, when I couldn’t get the record to back to the correct BPM. Wups! And for the record, that happened most often during my first set when I wasn't intoxicated. So I think it was just some wierd hand thing.

But lots of peeps showed up, including Brooke & Walt with a ton of dancers! Liz and Lauri also came down from Catwalk to support! And there was a surprise appearance by Bishop. I was so surprised to see him in fact, that I spilled his brand-new drink trying to give him a hug ‘hello’. Wups!!

See, the great thing about being the DJ is that you get tons of free drinks. But the problem with being a DJ is that you get tons of free drinks! I was smart enough not to drive home, but not quite smart enough to realize that it’s a bad idea to leave your record case full of vinyl in your trunk in the middle of Pioneer Square all night long. Um, hello? Even when Julie said, ‘are you sure you want to leave those in there?’ I was like, ‘Ssuuurre, no big deal, shhiiit’. So my babies sat in the trunk ALL night.

Now, a vinyl case holds sentimental, fiscal and stylistic value. Not only was the case a gift (and covered with stickers that are irreplaceable), but it fits over 100 records, which at $6 to $15 a pop can add up to quite a bit. Plus! The countless during-work hours that I slaved away listening to tracks on dancerecords, satellite records or primal in order to find my own personal style is unimaginable. So when I woke up in the morning and realized that I’d put my babies in danger, I was utterly disappointed with myself. I have nobody to blame except Julie, and she’s already covered her ass by asking me if I was sure and forcing me to make a bad decision TWICE. I got up quickly, sucked down 2 huge glasses of water and then caught the 71 to 2nd and Washington where my babies slept soundly in Kiya’s bonnet, undisturbed. Whew!

The thing that I didn’t realize at the time was that my new digital camera that my parents bought me, er, I mean Santa brought for me at Christmas must have fallen out of my pocket somewhere. There’s tons of great pics from LSC that night that I can’t show you which totally bums me out and makes me want to call my mom and apologize profusely. Hopefully it will turn up, but if not, keep your eye out for illegal on-line photos of me nude. Wups!!!

And yes, I was hung over all day on Sunday. I hate alcohol.
