I'm off to Boston (well, I was when I wrote this in my notebook on the plane) to DJ a Holiday party and I have a small confession. I don’t own any Christmas records. So I turn to my 2nd favorite tool of all time (how did I exist without this?), the Internet. We love you, Internet. We love your lists & songs & searches. Your live journals, meeting spaces and recipe databases. And the way you have answers to all of our questions ‘right now’, even if it’s not the correct answer. Anyway, I love that I was able to find Christmas songs that I never knew existed.
Like Tracy Chapman’s version of ‘O Holy Night’, the Muppet’s 12 days of Christmas and 495 versions of Amazing Grace.
I also came across a Christmas song (well, not really but Christmas is in the title) by Dolly Parton that I’d forgotten about from my childhood. This is significant because I had just rented the movie ‘Best Little Whorehouse in Texas’ from Netflix and my DVD player is kinda broken. So some movies play just until the part that is the most important in the movie and then it either skips bad disc area or completely stops all together. And it was just coming the part of the movie where she sangs ‘I Will Always Love You,’ the original and (in my opinion) the best version of that song. Anyway, I came across another song in the movie, ‘Hard Candy Christmas’ which is so beautiful. So then I looked for a bunch of other Dolly songs and I realized something that I didn’t know about myself – I am a Dolly Parton fan. I don’t know if I’ll ever make it to Dollywood but her songs sure is pretty.
Also, strangely, Dolly came to town on Dec 19th at the Everett Event’s Center. Wierd. I think she’s haunting me.
