Anniversary Weekend

Not a lot went on this week for me. I’m resting after the holiday craziness … a mix of two family affairs, 2 out-of-town friends, 2 out-of-town friends-of-friends, an uptight all-request DJ at a 30-person VIP party, 2 worm-infested pie crusts, a cover band in Sumner, a Sunday-night nude-fest, and a bought of diarrhea. Not necessarily in that order.

However, there’s a TON of great things going on this weekend, including some important club anniversaries.

(Fri Dec 3), Contour celebrates its 5th year anniversary with "Naked Sushi v. 2.0."
Complimentary Nyotaimori displays featuring the culinary art of NiJo Sushi Bar & Grill.
Resident House DJ’s Danny Massure, Danny Fortunato, Graham Jones, and Mark M.

I have to love Contour, not only because of it’s incredible music but also because it was one of the first clubs we all frequented when we set out partying, oh my, like 4 ½ years ago. I remember it being a new club when Kali introduced it to Missy and I way back in the day. Their performance art and other visual stuff was just trippy! One time they had a man come out of the back room, bald, painted completely white wearing all white robes. He was carrying a doll over his shoulder, also completely white…white hair, white dress, white gloves. The man placed the doll on the table and the she began moving in slow movements, waking up into life. She lifted her head, her arms, and stood, only 4 feet tall it seemed, on the table. Trippy shit that a small town like Seattle hadn’t seen much of before. I once also remember a projector pointed high up on the wall showing black and white movies of real dyke porn. Lovely.

Also on Friday, Doc Martin is at Element with Wesley Holmes! Doc is a House legend and Wesley is a Seattle legend. This will be an amazing show.

If you are looking for something more mellow, check out the Ragga, Jungle, Dub and Dancehall at CHAC. Here’s a listing from NWTekno. Good stuff.

If I don’t stay home on Friday, I might do something a little different (for a House head). I may head over to Aristocrats for some a Drum ‘N Bass night, Evol Intent. Thanks to Elltee and Shieny, I’m getting a lot more interested in this fast-paced rhythm magic.

(Sat Dec 4) - Uniting Souls presents...San Francisco Sessions v5 Tour
JT DONALDSON and LANCE DESARDI including local support from BEATRICE.
If Big Mama were in town, this is definitely where I’d be. However, since she’ll probably already have seen this tour in Portland the night before, I will very likely be at Triple Door to see Brandi Carlile. She’s playing two shows that night, 8:00 and 10:30. I haven’t been there yet and very much look forward to seeing this venue.

Elltee informs me of another excellent non-dj show on Saturday ~ Pedro the Lion at the Showbox. This also includes guests Viva Voce, Blue Scholars, Half-life Souvenir (featuring Rosie Thomas) and Shawn Smith.

BTW, Elltee is another Rockstar that must be noted. Not only is she a fantastic DJ, but she’s always heading off to some obscure electronic or indie rock show that I’ve never heard of but ends up being the best show of the night/weekend/month in town. This chic knows her music. Case in point ( I think I’ve already mentioned this, but it’s so noteworthy that it’s worth mentioning again ) she _seamlessly_ mixed Postal Service into a Drum ‘N Bass set on Halloween. Girl, you rock & roll! meow!

Another Seattle club anniversary ~ Last Supper Club 6 year Anniversary! DJ Rap, Eva, and Chronus. Sweet! And if you head out to this show, say hey to Kristin and tell her what a great job she did on the ‘Unbridled’ night back in October.

And on last note for the weekend, Julia informs me that there is an ‘I heart Rummage’ sale on Sunday for FREE at the Crocodile this weekend. Good start for the Holiday shopping.
